French as a Second Language Training – Second Language Assessment (French)

Language Program level A, B, C + Evaluation

Level A & B

The French as a Second Language Program – Levels A and B (PFL2 – A and B) is designed to help students achieve bilingualism standards A and B in the federal government. It provides the skills needed to interact effectively in French in everyday work situations.

Level C

Preparatory Sessions 1 and 2 are two-week classroom review sessions. They allow students to consolidate Level B language skills: language functions, grammar, vocabulary, and listening comprehension. Preparatory Session 1  & 2

Evaluation

These exercises are primarily learning activities. Therefore, the results obtained on these exercises are not predictive of your results on the Public Service Commission's second language evaluation

Level A & B

The program adopts a communicative approach, drawing inspiration from typical professional tasks in public administration. It focuses on the following key aspects of language and communication:

- Language Functions
- Listening Comprehension
- Vocabulary
- Grammar
- Phonetics
- Communication Strategies
- Written Expression

The program sequence consists of:

  • 40 learning objectives, formulated in terms of communicative performance. The activities are primarily designed for classroom completion, with some including answer keys, making them suitable for self-study.

  • Consolidations, offering a series of activities that provide classroom feedback on the learning objectives and points covered.

  • Self-assessments, including written and oral activities, to evaluate your progress throughout the program.

Level C

This program – Level C (PFL2 – C) is intended for advanced learners who have sufficient mastery of the language elements taught in levels A and B. Its goal is to develop skills and achieve linguistic performance to meet the competency objectives of level C.​

The program consists of two preparatory sessions:

Preparatory Session 1- presents the different ways of introducing oneself and how to request and provide information (i.e., describing situations, tasks, processes and asking for or expressing an opinion)
Preparatory Session 2- presents the different ways of presenting, analyzing, and explaining a problem (i.e., communicating results, modifications, or suggestions, persuading, comparing situations, and expressing different points of views).


Once preparatory sessions successfully completed, the learner will proceed to the Level C learning modules.

The course consists of four modules divided into themes relating to one of the following category:

- Social Issues
